WASHINGTON (AP)—Luciano Emilio scored his 11th goal of the season and Jaime Moreno had a goal and an assist to help D.C. United beat the Kansas City Wizards 2-0 Saturday night.

United (8-8-1) won for the fifth time in six MLS games and took sole possession of fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Zach Wells recorded his first shutout in 16 games this season.

Kansas City (5-6-7) lost for the first time in eight games, the last setback coming June 14 to Columbus.

Emilio took a crossing pass in the 28th minute from Moreno and, after switching the ball from his right foot, blasted a shot with his left into the lower left corner. Emilio is now tied for second in goals in the MLS with Edson Buddle of Los Angeles and Kenny Cooper of Dallas.

Ivan Guerrero, acquired in a trade Thursday with San Jose, also had an assist on the goal for United.

Moreno scored on a header in the 60th minute to beat goalie Kevin Hartman, who entered the game with the fifth-best goals-against average in the league at 1.24. Defender Marc Burch had the assist.

Kansas City defender Matt Marquess made his MLS debut when he entered the game to start in the second half in place of Ryan Pore. The Wizards have just 17 goals this season, the second-fewest in the league.
